Biscuits

This evening, for supper, we had a delightful meal. Mom made a ham and meat(I’m not sure what else she put in it) noddle dish with frozen carrots from Gordon’s, and biscuits. Mom’s biscuits are some of the best in the country. Light and fluffy, these delectable treats are slightly powdery and soak up butter beautifully. Add some homemade strawberry jam, and you have one of the best combinations I’ve ever tasted. Anyway, they are really, really good.

Before I got up, during mom’s tutoring, Matthew got quite sick, with pain at 12 on a scale of 10. This mysterious ailment also came with intense bouts of vomiting. Eventually, he got to sleep for a couple of hours, and when he awoke, the pain was about a 1 or a 2. By three or four, he was out playing with the dog. Many people were praying for him, and that seems to be the only explanation for his miraculous recovery. Praise the Lord!

Here’s a link to a better picture(actually a pdf) of Matthew’s garden layout.

Tomorrow is state S&E, so hopefully that will go well. At least things will slow down once it’s over. Pray for the piano, that it won’t be too stiff(Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata doesn’t take them well, having 2 measures MF, and the rest quieter). Also petition that the computer would follow me well during my trumpet solo.

I’m also slated to perform something at our tri-church Good Friday service, but that will be relaxing after the Moonlight Sonata. I plan to play my Funeral Medley, which will be quite good for a Good Friday service.

Mom’s (she’s directing it) church choir is also preparing a piece for Easter Sunday, and Dad and Matthew are singing. I don’t do much in the way of singing, mostly because I’m usually already in over my head back at the sound booth. So, with God’s help (not to be critical, but although the group doesn’t lack enthusiasm, some of them need help :-)…) they will do good.

I guess that’s all for now,

Jonathan

puppy

The big news over the past week is that we have a new puppy!

DSCN0304

Our new dog—Baxter

He is a border collie with a bit of newfoundland mixed in. Before Monday, Baxter was our pastor’s dog, but he and his wife decided they couldn’t cope with the puppy-ness of the dog. As soon as one of them left him alone for even one minute, he was off doing something he shouldn’t have been, most recently making a mess of their bedroom floor. A sad pastor’s wife asked if we wanted him, since we had been looking for a new dog since our old one, Lady, died around Thanksgiving. We had also visited with Baxter often, being the people-loving charmer that he is, so he already knew us some.

I’ve also been working on pottervilla.net reciently. It used to be mostly an email portal, with occasional pages put up when we were trying to sell something—most recently an old Kenmore stove. I’m trying to make a sort of content management system from scratch. It won’t have an administration page, as I’m not that skilled, but would like to use Php Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) script to allow the same page to show different content based on what comes after a ? in the url. I’m not to good with PHP yet, but have worked with it some, and it already makes the process ten times easier. Another experiment, I’m trying to make it using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), which offers hundreds of extra options in layout and design, but can be very quirky at times. Normally, I would use HTML tables for a project like this, but am trying to learn CSS for the experience. I would love to hear what you think of it, although it’s still in the design phase.

What do you think of our new music? The idea came from another blogger, Marci, who writes down on the farm.

Matthew said that the temperature in the greenhouse is in the 60’s F, and its only 48 F outside. His plants upstairs are doing well, although some of his Rutger Tomatoes got over-watered and died. His chicks aren’t doing so well—he only has one left out of 27 or 28. I heard a rumor that he might post soon, so I won’t elaborate.

Dad’s home now, and supper is about on the table, so I’ll call this a post.

Thursday

Good Evening,

I had intentions of posting over the last week, but have been busy. Last Thursday, the computer at church broke, so I spent some time between then and Sunday trying to fix that. Also, my apprentice work has been moderately heavy, so that has been keeping me busy. lacycreekgrowers.com is finished! At least for the moment.

Tomorrow is the band festival in Perry, So I have been working on music for that also. Not to forget state S&E, I have been vigorously working on my Bach invention and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. Those are (hopefully) coming along nicely. I need to start practicing my trumpet solo with the computer accompaniment again.

Today, mom got a new monitor, a 19″ widescreen LCD instead of a 19″ CRT. She has been tutoring kids in Korea, teaching them English, via the web, Skype, and video conferencing software. She needed the extra desk space to put her notes. Since she is getting paid for this, she made the splurge and is writing it off as a business expense. I also got another 2Gig of ram, only $33 after rebate at Newegg.

I just heard a rumor that homeschooling has been ruled illegal in California, by a semi-reliable source. I’m sure HSLDA will have something on their website soon. It seems they even have a petition for those that live in California.

Awana seemed to go well tonight, though not as well as some should have liked with several of the more rowdy kids (who shall remain nameless).

It’s getting late, so I’m going to sign off for a while.
